Kyle CrosslandÕs music has recently been drawing the attention of students from the University of Miami. As a student singer-songwriter from the university, KyleÕs acoustic-rock style has been compared to that of John Mayer and Jack Johnson. His energetic performances and catchy up-beat songs are almost magnetic to whoever happens to be listening. From a young age, Kyle knew that somehow his life needed to incorporate music. He has been singing for as long as he can remember, and growing-up he idolized artists like James Taylor and the Beach Boys. His love for singing brought him to Dr. Phiillips a Magnet High School which focused on choral studies. It was in his junior year of high school when Kyle first picked up a guitar and started writing songs.
The KeyRats, Key Biscayne's finest
On December 31, 2003, The Keyrats had been commissioned to play for a crowd approaching 1,000 people from the balcony of a Key Biscayne residence overlooking the Miami bay. The performance was a success, and shortly thereafter The Keyrats began receiving phone calls from local promoters interested in booking the band. Since then, The Keyrats have played at multiple popular venues in Miami including Oxygen Lounge, Bolero, Honey, Bayside Hut, Transit Lounge, Flavour, Grove Isle, CefaloÕs and the University of Miami. Other notable venues include Jewells, Boardwalk Tavern, B.E.D., and MiamiÕs Mega Club, Mansion. The Keyrats have evolved into a dynamic four piece band consisting of drums, bass, guitars and two vocalists. On some nights they even feature special guests on the keyboard, timbales, saxophone, and a trombone/Trumpet horn section. Their debut album, "DonÕt Panic," which was released in 2006, is a blend of their multiple diverse backgrounds, including reggae, latin funk, punk rock and jazz.
Araka
DJ Billy Gotti
DJ Billy Gotti knows how essential diversity is to his craft. Whether it's musically or personally, he embraces all that is new or different about a genre of music and appreciates his distinctive background. Born in White Plains, NY and raised in both New York City and South Florida, he traveled the globe with his multicultural parents, spending time in Australia and Italy among other cosmopolitan hotspots. While much of his background is in the restaurant industry, the DJ was fascinated by the world of dance and music. His father, an Italian immigrant, owned restaurants in New York City and Florida from the time he was a small child, but he always knew he wanted to work in entertainment. He also knew he would never be a prima ballerina! He gave up his dance aspirations in favor of DJing, drawing inspiration from the old school, DJ-centric hip hop groups of the eighties. After being in the industry for eleven years, he has expanded his musical taste and now spins everything from hip-hop, to rock, to electronica. Gotti's proclivity for spinning has earned him some amazing accolades, including winning the X102.3 DJ Idol 2008 contest, for which he received a full scholarship to West Palm Beach's CSB School for Broadcasting. He is set to graduate in January of 2009. He also counts some of the industry's top DJs as co-performers, including DJ Jungleboy, DJ LS One, and DJ Irie, among others. DJ Billy Gotti's many talents do not stop with spinning. Before devoting himself to music, he enjoyed success in both the restaurant industry and the high-end clothing industry. Also an entrepreneur, the musical prodigy owns his own entertainment/event planning company based out of his current hometown of Boca Raton, FL. Ever a fan of diversity, he has plenty of interests outside of his work. Besides spending time with friends and family, working out, and reading, he also works with his church's youth group, teaching the kids how to DJ and wakeboard. Additionally, he is affiliated with the Scratch DJ Academy in Miami Beach. DJ Billy Gotti is sure to continue his successful run as a premier DJ, as his heart is in his work and he truly enjoys what he does. “Not a lot of people get to wake up everyday and be excited about their job,” he says. But the major perk of his job is his ability to please a crowd by demonstrating his superior spinning skills, which are sure to launch him into further super-stardom.
Your Headliner and hottest Sweet Pine Records act: STREETKIND
Established in 2005. Day One: It was a winter Monday, I had come down from New York for a meeting with a publisher and then went to see my longtime friend Matt Messina. Matt told me he wrote a song and wanted to play it for me. He put the tattered piece of loosleaf paper with lyrics that had been written with 3 different types of pens at his feet as he sat in a small throne like wooden chair with his guitar, an off brand acoustic, and played "Gangster" After the three minute song was over I felt as though I had taken a journey riding shotgun into the heart of the vibe, that makes up the South Beach hustle. Streetkind is a collective perspective of truth. Coming out of Miami Beach from the inside out, a new sound that has the undertones that resonate the way music does when we first become inspired by it. The first album "Sound of my life" produced by grammy winning producer Ron St. Germain will be out in April. The band with Fernndo Perdomo on Guitar, Roberto Castillo on Bass and Sam Levine on Drums can deliver a musical punch that will leave an invaluable mark of insight for a long time to come. Streetkind is launching a national tour that will hit 20 staes starting by opening for TI and Sean Paul at the Miami American Airlines Arena and ending on the homefield of Miami as well. Check out Streetkind.com for more info and remarkable music.
