Wakeboarders are towed behind a boat at a speed of about 18-24 mph. The earliest form of wakeboarding is when surfers got pulled in to a massive wave that they were not able to paddle in by themselves. Wakeboarding made its debut in 1992, when a Florida-based sports promoter and event organizer, began creating pro wakeboard competitions which were aired on ESPN and ESPN2.
