Recent news in the arena of extreme sports ˆ The Billabong Azores Islands Pro surf competition took place in conditions of 2-3 feet.
Fitzgibbons ranked highest with the highest score of 8.5. The ride started out fairly calm until conditions became fierce and the competition was halted for 6 hours until the tide went out.
Competitors were forced to up their game contending with strong waves and skilled peers.
In other news, Red Bull is teaming up with 5 of the top motocross stars and are designing a brand new track for the 1st Red Bull Metalliccross. The design showcases parts of Endurocross, Supercross, motocross, freestyle and trials. Expect some wild crazy aspects thrown together giving the competitor a navigational challenge. The bespoke track has a 12 foot high step up, creek crossings, explosions, stretches of sand and flame geysers to contend with. This event created by Red Bull Metallicross is available to both pros and amateurs and racers are encouraged to qualify.
Over in the UK, Burton has joined with famous British fashion designer Paul Smith to create the 2011 Burton Vapor snowboard. Burton and Smith have previously collaborated on an apparel line in 2007 showcasing high fashion edgy looks specifically for Snowboarding.
In US action, the second annual Converse Coastal Carnage has been hitting it hard at Huntington Beach, Calif. With $75,000 dollars up for grabs. 30 of the world`s top skaters fought it out to come out on top. 1st prize went to Ben Hatchell who walked away with $15,000.
Coastal Carnage is the biggest action sports festival in the US. Half a million people attended the week`s events.
